My mistake - but that's what I thought NI were doing - I at least expected a full DX7, not 10 pages of guitar cabinet effects (etc.) where (to a greater or lesser degree) the whole machine was there to be accessed by buttons and knobs. My background was from the workstations of Roland, Yamaha, Korg etc.
back to the computer for the editing - so zero reason to have a KK keyboard.
My personal beef was that the FM8 comes with about 10 pages of stupid effect tweaks (what's that got to do with FM synthesis) - and the FM is limited to 'Timbre' and 'Harmonics' - ugh, hopeless. So, and I've seen this posted a bunch on various topics/vsts, The KK ecosystem gives you access to a huge library, and then from that, a few tweaker knobs. I for one felt that what NI had developed was a hardware control interface to their massive vst repository - they kinda have, but the 'gotchas' are big.īasically, and this is not just to NI, the only modern way of figuring out gear is to buy it and mess with it - the old store option has gone. It's funny that, in this new superior world, it's virtually impossible to really 'kick the tires' on a piece of kit (which was standard back in the day) - so we rely on product reviews, youtube vids, trying to make something out of the pdf manual etc.
